Kenya Kwanza Infighting In Kiambu Might Take Down All the Candidates
Public feud in Kiambu exposes infighting in Kenya Kwanza
During a campaign rally in Kagwe, Githunguri Kiambu county, the infighting within the Kenya Kwanza outfit in Kiambu politics boiled over and became public when Kiambu senator, now running for the governor seat with a UDA ticket Kimani Wamatangi and former Kiambu governor William Kabogo exchanged bitter words in the presence of Kenya Kwanza running mate Rigathi Gachagua and a charged crowd.
An animated Kimani shouted at William Kabogo telling him that he will not be intimidated, Kabogo hitting back with equal passion asking the senator to shut up. Rigathi Gachagua who was present stayed away from the feud to avoid meddling in Kiambu local politics.
There has been an elephant in the room within Kenya Kwanza in Kiambu where parties within the William Ruto led coalition are fielding candidates for the same position and tension has been building up because none of the aspirants is willing to drop their bid to support coalition preferred candidates, hence the confusion and bitter rivalry.
This is especially playing out at the gubernatorial race and is threatening to widen the rifts within the Kenya Kwanza outfit in Kiambu and could cause a headache for its leader William Ruto.
William Ruto needs to clean house in Kiambu because it just might work against him in the end.
Here’s how it looks, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who has his own party Chama cha Kazi, former governor William Kabogo with his outfit Tujibebe Wakenya, Thika Town’s Wainana Wa Jungle a now independent candidate and UDA nominee to run for the position the current Kiambu senator Kimani wa Matangi are all vying for the same position and it is going to complicate the chances for Kenya Kwanza in that race which might just make them all lose out because on the other side Jubilee is rallying behind one candidate the current governor Dr James Nyoro.
Other members of the coalition like Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa have been asking voters to only vote for UDA candidates which is further exposing the disunity within the outfit. This will definitely complicate things for Kenya Kwanza to solidify its support in the August 9th election if the candidates for the gubernatorial race split votes, which will mean advantage for Jubilee their biggest competitor in the region.
Will we see some candidates threaten to leave the coalition because of the chaos, it is hard to tell at this point but one thing remains clear; William Ruto needs to clean house in Kiambu because it just might work against him in the end.
